At a time when it feels like London is collapsing around us - a cost of living crisis, insecure housing and the potential for social unrest - I wanted to expand on an earlier photography project documenting the architecture and social infrastructure surrounding the ever disappearing Aylesbury Estate in South East London. Walworth is a melting pot of cultures and working class communities which have shaped the area for generations. While the landscape may be changing, the influence and presence of these communities still remains. Social housing was built upon utopian ideals of community and welfare, but years of neglect and rapid gentrification has left much of these emptying estates with an eerie dystopian vibe.
