The POW/MIA flag is so ubiquitous in America that some have called it a second national flag. Despite a largely unknown history rooted in myth, it occupies a strange cultural space between universal reverence, blind deference, and extremist iconography. Using interviews taken across the US to explore perceptions of a banner that Americans see above post offices, capitol buildings, and parks every day - but perhaps neglect to consider - Those Flags shows that there are no clear answers when it comes to questions of national symbolism and remembrance.
