Last year, mid lockdown, Amy approached me with this project to re-cut a film for @toyota and the @paralympics as part of the #startyourimpossible campaign. It quickly became more than a Director's Cut. She gave me full freedom to take an already made and released film and start from scratch. Using that blank canvas and fresh eyes to bring in new ideas, style and pacing to create something more impactful and emotional and very inspirational. It was a joy to edit and work closely with Amy and Joe once again. From the Director Amy Becker-Burnett: "When Ricardinho @ricardinho_fut5 tragically lost his sight at the age of 6, he was told he would never play football again. Ricardinho didn’t see becoming blind as a disability but more a challenge to prove everyone wrong that doubted he could pursue football. Ignoring the sceptics he continued to practice by tying a plastic bag around the ball so he could hear the sound of it as it moved. He practiced relentlessly using just the crackle of the plastic and his memory of the game. He’s since gone on to win 3 gold Olympic medals and Paralympics Athlete Of The Year. Being part of this was a truly incredible experience, watching the skill and bravery of Ricardinho and his team mates play Olympic football using just sound, touch and instinct as guidance was mad. But more so, getting to know him as an individual and see how humble, driven and positive he remains, really put things into perspective. Special thanks to @s00k1e for eliminating any language barrier and making the process so effortless.
