The work tells about the story of Pope Formosus’ earthly journey, starting from his agony. It recalls the episodes that marked his fate: the fleding from Rome to escape the accusation of conspiracy against the Papacy; his refuge in France as heretic when he risked excommunication; the redemption and glorification ascending to the papal throne; the trial, the ‘sinodus horrenda’ of the collective hysteria, which results into the fury on the corpse and the ‘damnatio memoriae’.
